「ボチボチ」とは、日本語のオノマトペの一種であるが、特に関西地方では、挨拶をするとそのように返ってくることがある。一見すると謙遜しているように聞こえるかもしれないが、実はそういうわけでもない。地球の気候が崩壊しつつある中、ウイルスや住民の怒りから身を隠しながら防寒着を着て去年の米を食べているとき、「ぼちぼち」という言葉は現実よりもずっといい響きに聴こえてくる。漸進的な動きと着実な進歩、奈落の底への大ジャンプよりも2歩のベイビーステップが良いという印象で、「ボチボチ」は、なお面白い皮肉に聴こえ、そしてもっと頻繁に使われるべきであると感じる。

Bochibochi is a type of Japanese onomatopoeia that describes a condition. In the Kansai region when you greet someone the reply could be “bochibochi,” or “not bad.” It might sound like some humble understatement. But it’s not. When the Earth’s climate is disintegrating while you’re dining on last year’s rice in an arctic parka hiding from viruses and angry denizens—bochibochi sounds better and better, much nicer than the reality. With the impression of incremental movement and steady progression, when two baby steps forward are better than a great leap into the abyss, bochibochi should be used more often in times when “I’m doing so great,” sounds like a hilarious irony.

プリントについて｜About the Print

これらのプリントは、光に反応するため、まさに写真と言うことができます。サイアノタイプは、乾燥すると日光や紫外線に敏感となり、明るい黄色からオリーブ色の色調に変化していきます。また、紙が空気中の水分を吸収すると、紫色の色調に変化します。このプリントは現像する必要はありませんが、洗うと歴史的なプルシアンブルーの色調になります。

These prints are really photographs, since they react to light. These cyanotype prints become sensitive to daylight and any ultraviolet (UV) light as they dry, changing from bright yellow to an olive tone. A violet tone will form as the paper absorbs moisture from the air. These prints don’t need to be developed but washing it will create the historic Prussian blue hue.
